Frappé Guide – How to Make a Creamy Café Frappé

A good frappé should be cold, creamy and still easy to drink. Texture comes mainly from the balance between ice, liquid, frappé base and blender performance.

What is a frappé?

Today the term covers many blended cold drinks made with coffee, milk, ice and a base or flavouring. Café-style frappés are usually smoother and airier than simple iced coffee.

Basic method

Start with the manufacturer’s dosage for your frappé base. Blend ice, liquid and base until smooth. Add more ice for a thicker result or a little more liquid for easier drinking.

Using a frappé base

A prepared base makes sweetness and texture more consistent. Options include Monin Vanilla Frappé Mix, Monin Coffee Frappé Mix and Monin Chocolate Frappé Mix.

Can frappé be made without coffee?

Yes. Vanilla, chocolate, fruit and yoghurt variations are common.

Which blender?

Use a blender designed for ice and your expected volume. For professional cafés, power, cleaning and durability matter most. Browse our blenders.

Why is my frappé too thin?

  • Too much liquid.
  • Too little ice.
  • Too little base.
  • Over-blending.
  • Ingredients starting too warm.

Why is it too thick?

Usually too much ice or too little liquid. Add liquid gradually and blend briefly.

Coffee frappé

Espresso or a coffee base works well. Monin Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate can also create a simple workflow.

Syrup and sauce

Caramel, vanilla, hazelnut and chocolate are classics. If the base is already sweet, add extra syrup carefully.

Plant-based frappé

Choose a compatible plant drink and base. Monin Non Dairy Frappé Mix is one option.

For professional cafés

Standardise the ice scoop, liquid, base quantity and blend time for consistent texture, flavour and food cost.
