The Moscow Mule is an incredibly delicious cocktail that, along with the Martini and Mint Julep, has its very own unique glass.
Ask any bartender, and they will tell you that a Moscow Mule isn't "truly" a cocktail unless it's served in a sturdy copper mug. This is not just for aesthetic reasons, but because copper is the ideal material for keeping the drink refreshingly cold.
This unique cocktail glass is one of the most recognized specialty glasses in the bar world. Named after the Russian capital, Moscow, this drink and barware is a MUST HAVE in any cocktail bar, café, and especially in home bars. Read on and try the authentic Moscow Mule recipe.
Moscow Mule Recipe:
Although the name of this cocktail evokes thoughts of Russian cold, the Moscow Mule is said to have originated in sunny California. In 1941, two resourceful gentlemen had a brilliant idea that paved the way for vodka to become one of the most popular spirits in the American market. John G.
Martin, who owned the spirits company Heublin Inc. – and held the rights to Smirnoff Vodka in the USA – teamed up with a man named Jack Morgan, who owned the Cock ’n’ Bull bar in Los Angeles and produced his own ginger beer. Together they invented the Moscow Mule, which, with its tangy lime flavor and a hint of ginger, helped the relatively unknown vodka to flourish.
London Mule Recipe:
Just like the traditional recipe, this one is built on the same foundation. In the London Mule recipe, the vodka is simply swapped out for delicious gin.
This is traditionally made with vodka, but you can use other spirits as well. You might also try it with dark rum or pisco.
Barbados Mule Recipe:
Just like the traditional recipe, this one is constructed similarly. In the Barbados Mule recipe, the vodka is simply replaced with delicious dark rum.
