Julep Strainer in Gunmetal Finish

Classic julep strainer in Gun metal.

A classic design for classic bartenders, the julep strainer is used differently than traditional strainers. Instead of resting on the outside of a shaker or mixing glass, you position this large spoon-shaped strainer just inside the rim and angle it so that the mixed drink flows through the holes. It takes a little practice but gives you an extra tool to impress.

Cocktail strainers are essential bartending tools used to keep ice out and maintain a smooth flow of liquid into the glasses.

Recipes where the julep strainer can be used:

Sazerac

• 6 cl Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey
• 3 dashes of Peychaud’s Bitters
• 1 bar spoon of simple syrup
• Dash of absinthe from your dash bottle
  Instructions:
  Using your strainer or julep strainer, strain the contents into your cocktail lowball glass.

Diamondback

• 4.5 cl Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey
• 2 cl Calvados
• 2 cl Green Chartreuse
  Instructions:
  Combine all ingredients in your mixing glass and stir gently with your bar spoon until the drink is chilled. Then strain into your coupe glass.

Recipe for 2 glasses
Mint Julep

• 1/2 dl sugar
• 1/2 dl water
• 10 mint sprigs
• 10 cl bourbon whiskey
• sparkling water
• crushed ice

Sugar syrup - boil sugar and mint in water and let it cool. You can make extra for more glasses.
Strain through a sieve into the glasses. Pour whiskey into the glass, fill with crushed ice. Top with sparkling water and garnish with mint sprigs.
