Elysia GT glas 50 cl som stort stilkglas til Spritz

What Glass Should You Use for Aperol Spritz?

An Aperol Spritz looks simple, but the glass makes a real difference. You need room for plenty of ice, sparkling wine, soda and orange garnish without filling the drink right to the rim. That is why a large stemmed glass is usually the best choice.

Short answer: large wine glass or Copa

A roomy stemmed glass provides both volume and an elegant presentation. Around 45–60 cl works well for many Spritz serves depending on the recipe and ice. One example is the Elysia GT 50 cl glass.

Why does a Spritz need a large glass?

The ice needs space first of all. A Spritz is best served with plenty of cold, solid cubes. If the glass is too small, you either use too little ice or fill the drink so close to the rim that it becomes difficult to carry.

How much ice?

Fill the glass generously rather than adding only a few cubes at the bottom. Read more in how much ice should go in a cocktail?.

Copa or regular wine glass?

Both work. A Copa has a broad rounded bowl with plenty of room for ice and orange. A large wine glass can be particularly useful in restaurants because it can also serve wine and other Spritz variations.

For more on the Copa shape, see our Gin & Tonic glass guide.

Can you use a highball?

Yes. A highball creates a more compact modern serve, although it has less width for a large orange slice and less visual space than a balloon or wine glass.

Can you use champagne glassware?

A classic flute is usually too narrow for a traditional Spritz packed with ice. A large coupe can look beautiful, but its wide shallow shape is less practical on a tray. See our champagne glass guide.

Stemmed or stemless?

A stem lets you hold the glass without warming the bowl directly and suits the light visual style of Spritz. It is useful rather than mandatory.

The orange needs room too

An orange slice or wedge should sit naturally between the ice or at the rim. A very small glass quickly looks overcrowded.

For professional bars and restaurants

Consider washing, storage, tray stability and whether the glass can be used for other serves. A Copa-style glass around 50 cl is often versatile for Spritz, Gin & Tonic and other large drinks.

Our recommendation

For a classic Aperol Spritz, we would generally choose a large stemmed glass around 45–60 cl. It gives you room for plenty of ice, an open presentation and a proper orange garnish.
