8 easy mocktail recipes you can make at home

A mocktail is a drink without alcohol – same glass, same ice, same garnish. You build flavour with juice, soda and good syrup instead of spirits.

Here are eight recipes that take a few minutes. Most need only three things besides ice: a base, a syrup and something fresh for garnish.

What you usually need

• A cocktail shaker or a large glass and a barspoon
• Ice (large cubes melt more slowly)
• Syrup – grenadine, strawberry, vanilla and caramel cover most classics
• Fresh citrus, mint or berries

1. Shirley Temple

• 2 cl Monin Grenadine
• 10–12 cl ginger ale or lemon/lime soda
• Ice · optional cocktail cherry

Fill a highball with ice → grenadine → top with soda → stir once.

2. Virgin Mojito

• 8–10 mint leaves
• 2 cl lime juice
• 2 cl sugar syrup
• Soda water · ice

Gently muddle mint and lime, add syrup and ice, top with soda. A muddler helps.

3. Strawberry lemonade mocktail

• 2–3 cl Monin Strawberry
• 3 cl lemon juice
• 10 cl water or soda
• Ice

Shake 10 seconds, strain over fresh ice, top up.

4. Vanilla cola

• 1–1½ cl Monin Vanilla
• Cola · ice · citrus wheel

5. Caramel iced coffee (no alcohol)

• Double espresso (chilled)
• 2 cl Monin Caramel
• Milk · ice

6. Citrus fizz

• 3 cl grapefruit or orange juice
• 1 cl lime
• 1 cl vanilla or grenadine (optional)
• Tonic · ice

7. Sunset

• 10 cl orange juice
• 1–2 cl grenadine
• Ice

Pour grenadine slowly down the side for a layered look.

8. Apple cinnamon

• 10 cl apple juice
• 1 cl vanilla syrup
• Pinch of cinnamon
• Ice – or serve warm without ice

Sugar-free twist: Swap sweet syrup for sugar-free caramel from the sugar-free range – dose carefully; they are concentrated.
